About Cam Barrett
For many years, I have wanted to create lamps and light shades that diffuse light in interesting ways while taking inspiration from organic forms. A 3D Artist by trade, I have been tempted to bring my designs to life but resisted due to the notion of burdening our planet with yet another ‘thing’. Through my exploration of form and sustainable printing methods, I am stoked to be able to bring these designs to fruition without using plastics made from crude oil, and helping to reduce plastics that end up in landfill.
My PLA materials are sourced from a local company that creates 3d printing filament using recycled plastics, and post-industrial waste from food packaging. PLA is a bioplastic that is commonly made from corn or sugarcane. Each piece is designed, printed and hand assembled in my home studio, powered by solar, and takes about 7 hours to produce.
